When my regular UPS guy isn't here to pick up the packages, we get this other older man now. He has gotta be in his sixties. It just makes me sad. It's like my dad. 65 and still working a hard job. It's just not right. When you're that age, after working for almost 50 years, you really should be cut a break. I know there's retirement, but social security isn't much and it's disappearing by the minute.
My parents didn't have the opportunities we have today. They didn't have a way to go to college without any money. They both grew up in poverty and had to make a life for themselves. But you know what? They did the best they could and made a good living. They have lots of things to show for it and I'm so proud to call them my parents. But owning your own business.... it's just too hard on them at this age. With my dad doing all the deliveries, in the heat, lifting heavy boxes all day, and my mom running the office all by herself, I just don't think it's right. My dad wants to retire more than anything, but he waited for my mom to turn 62 until she can get her social security too. Well she turns on Monday. And they will still be working. They have to sell the business and the building and so far, not happening. So they are forced to continue working.
It's just not right! I hate seeing it. And the worst part is, I don't have an answer on how to fix the problem.
At least they only work 4 days a week, and don't go into work until like 10.... or whenever they feel like it. But it's still not enough. They should be out enjoying their lives and seeing the world like they've always dreamed of.
They deserve it.

This year's Thanksgiving weekend is pretty sweet. Do you know why? Well, you should.
It's because Mary's 22nd birthday is on that Friday, and my 23rd birthday is on that Saturday.
Me and Mary have always talked about celebrating our birthdays together... Mary hasn't gotten to go on a big "you're 21" trip... Mine was to Tahoe, and then Vegas with Seany, but I haven't gone on one with my friends... We're pretty much very important...
So I'm thinking a Vegas trip for our birthdays... After Florida, me and Seany are going to start saving. I still have yet to talk to Mary about it, but hopefully she's down cuz that would be SWEEEEEEEEEEEET.
Plus, hopefully since Lo turns 21 the month before, her and Martin can come and have a hoorah with us as well... So whoever wants to come along, let me know.
Of course, this is still up in the air, cuz if Mary can't go, I'd probably want to plan something else that we can both do together.
Also, Tulloch was SUPER fun this weekend! I'll post pictures soon....
1 month, 5 days.... yeeeeeeeee!!!

So, I have this assignment in my "Cultural Diversity" class this week where I have to write a first person account as a subordinate group. In other words, as if I am Native American, African American, Mexican American...etc. I decided to choose Native American since I technically have Native American in me(my great grandmother was full-blooded Penobscot). So of course I've been doing more research than is needed, but I'm just so intrigued by our family history. Probably because my mother and I know hardly anything. We have soooooo many cousins that we have never met and so much history we don't know about. My mom doesn't even know why she's named Ninonah! She thinks she might be named after my great grandmother (the Native American one), but who really knows. We want to take a trip to Maine, Nova Scotia, and Massachusettes to find out more about our family history.
It's kind of weird cuz (don't laugh at me...) when I was little I used to always have this fascination with the tribes of the past. I loved learning about them, and I had this deep respect for them. I never even knew I had any amount in me until I was much older. So needless to say, I was pretty excited when I found out. The more I learn though, the more I feel for them. I thought this poem summed it up rather nicely....
A lonesome warrior stands in fear of what the future brings, he will never hear the beating drums or the songs his brothers sing.
Our many nations once stood tall and ranged from shore to shore but most are gone and few remain and the buffalo roam no more.
We shared our food and our land and gave with open hearts, We wanted peace and love and hope, but all were torn apart.
All this was taken because we did not know what the white man had in store, They killed our people and raped our lands and the buffalo roam no more.
But those of us who still remain hold our heads up high, and the spirits of the elders flow through us as if they never died.
Our dreams will live on forever and our nations will be reborn, our bone and beads and feathers all will be proudly worn.
If you listen close you'll hear t he drums and songs upon the winds, and in the distance you will see.... the buffalo roam again.
